Playing basketball can be quite a workout, it is guaranteed to make you sweat whether your playing at an outdoor park with some friends, recreational park with your league team or in the NBA. Today the Toronto Raptors are the only Canadian-based professional basketball team in the NBA. As a member of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division, the Toronto Raptors was originally established in 1995 as part of the NBA’s Canadian expansion. There were originally two expansion teams in Canada; however, the Vancouver Grizzlies relocated to Memphis, Tennessee in 2001 and became known as the Memphis Grizzlies, leaving the Toronto Raptors the only Canadian-based NBA team. Their home games were originally played at SkyDome, renamed in 2005 to the Rogers Centre, then in 1999 the team moved to the Air Canada Centre.
The Toronto Raptors struggled in the early years, but the acquisition of Vince Carter in 1998 had the Raptors not only setting attendance records, but in the years 2000, 2001, and 2002 they made the NBA play-offs. In Toronto in the 2015-16 season and led by All-Star guards DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, the Toronto Raptors won a record 56 games, leading the team into it’s very first visit to the finals. They were eventually defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Then in the 2016-17 season, the Raptors successfully achieved their fourth straight play-off appearance (a franchise record); however, they were defeated in the second-round post-season series by the Cavaliers
In April this year the Toronto Raptors successfully defeated the Washington Wizards 102 to 92, ending their Eastern Conference first-round series. They now advance to the Eastern Conference semi-finals where they’ll take on either the Indiana Pacers or Cleveland Cavaliers.
