How Rally Towels Started
The company that would eventually become Rally Towels began in 1997 when the current founder of rally towels set out to solve one of the biggest problems in the car wash industry—lint. A freshly washed car lost it’s shine rather quickly when the towels used to dry and buff it left particles of fluff behind. While he was still attending UCLA as a business economics major, he took on debt, started manufacturing lint-free towels, and did business out of the trunk of his car.
Custom Auto Towels 
That company—called Custom Auto Towels at the time—grew over the years, and its client base grew as well. It supplied towels not only to car washes, but also to hotels, motels, beauty salons, and spas. Things changed drastically in 2005, when, like a bolt from the blue, then the founder of Rally Towels got a phone call placing an enormous order.
A professional sports football team in the NFL needed 80,000 orange sports towels for a game day giveaway. Rally Towels founder checked his warehouse inventory, and fortunately, the team colors towels were in stock. But there was a catch. The team didn’t need blank orange towels. The teams towels had to be custom screen printed with the team’s logo and a sponsor’s name, and they had to be delivered cross-country in 10 days!
Fulfilling the Teams Towel Order
Apparently, the team’s previous supplier had just informed them that the order couldn’t be available by game day, and they were scrambling for a fast, reliable company to produce their promotional towels. At the time, Custom Towels didn’t offer any customization for its towels, but the current founder of rally towels, a lifelong sports fan, wasn’t about to let an opportunity like this pass him by. He took the sports team’s order and phoned his buddy, who owned a small print shop.
The warehouse and shop were not equipped to handle an order of 80,000 pieces; the screen print machine was small, old, and slow, and the shop didn’t have enough employees to process that kind of order. But that didn’t deter him, who said, “I will do whatever it takes to get this done, even if I have to stay up 24 hours a day.”
Completing the Custom Towel Order
With that determination, the founder of rally towels and his friend, and the temporary employees hired just for that project cranked out that the sport towel order day and night. They took turns sleeping in short shifts there in the shop; only went home once that entire week. But in the end, the towels were completed and delivered on time!
After that pivotal order, Rally Towels was formed, taking the strengths of the towel manufacturing business and merging them with the screen printing process. These days, however, we don’t use a single, old, slow screen printing machine. We have state-of-the-art screen printing machinery and use a proprietary screen printing process that allows us to produce up to 100,000 custom towels in just 48 hours.
Decorating & Styling Towels
Beyond screen printing, we have expanded to offer full color towel decorating options, including embroidery and dye sublimation transfer. Embroidery offers a classic look with depth and texture, and it can make any design or logo look more prestigious. Embroidered logos offer a touch of class that is especially suitable for golf towels to help keep the golf balls clean and hotel bath or beach towels.
Dye sublimation transfer is great for printing detailed, multicolored images onto the towels. Even photographs can be printed onto a towel through the dye sublimation process, which uses heat to move dye from specially prepared transfer paper onto the towel being printed.
