The Chicago Bulls got their start in 1966. Unlike many teams in the NBA, they’ve remained in the same city and had the same team name since they started. In their starting season, they were able to post the best record by an expansion team in NBA history. Over the next decade, fan interest started to wane until 1971 when they made the playoffs. They continued to make the playoffs 4 times in a row and even advanced to the conference finals in 1975. After 1975, the Bulls failed to maintain any real success until 1984 when they drafted Michael Jordan–a name that is almost synonymous with the Chicago Bulls. In his rookie year, Jordan began setting franchise records and he even led the Bulls to the playoffs that year. From 1991-1998, the team won 6 NBA championships, led by Jordan (until his retirement) and Scottie Pippen.
After Pippen’s trade in 1998 and Jordan’s second retirement in 1999, the Bulls have failed to make it to a championship since. In 2004, they advanced to the playoffs for the first time since Jordan’s retirement. Led by Derrick Rose from 2009-2015, they were later able to make the playoffs 5 times and gain 2 division titles (2011 and 2012).
